Coffee is one of life’s delicious luxuries. Some would argue that it’s not a luxury, but a necessity. If you’re an entrepreneur your client meeting spot is probably your local coffee shop. If you’ve ever been on an online dating app you’ve probably seen the inside of many coffee shops. It seems to be the favorite first date of, well, everyone. If you’re a writer, there’s something very F Scott Fitzgerald-Esque about writing from a coffee shop. Regardless of where and why you drink coffee, I’m going to share with you some of my favorite homemade coffee recipes. Making your own coffee can save money, save time, and be a healthier option for your daily routine.
Cost and Calories
If you buy coffee at your local coffee shop daily, the money you spend on coffee can quickly add up. Especially if you get one of those Sbux sugar-loaded seasonal lattes. A Sbux Pumpkin Spice Latte has 380 calories and costs around $7 each. Even the Pumpkin Spice Latte box of Kuerig K-Cup pods you can buy at the grocery store costs approximately $.95 each serving. The homemade pumpkin spice coffee recipe below has about 20 calories for the whole recipe (10 - 12 servings), and it costs $.14 per serving.
How to Store the Coffee
These three recipes are my favorites and I always have one of the variations mixed and stored in my OXO Airtight Containers just waiting for a fresh brew. When I make mine, I use my Keurig and these Stainless Steel Reusable K-Cups, but you can brew it in a coffee pot as well.
Add Other Ingredients Too
Depending on my mood, I may add some almond or coconut milk to mine and use my frother. It’s delicious and more nutritious than the store-bought coffees. It's also easy on the pocketbook, and easy to make at home.
Give one or all of these recipes a try and tell me what you think. Did you add something different?
Chai Coffee Recipe

- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp cardamom
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ⅛ tsp ginger
Pumpkin Spice Coffee
- 1 C Ground coffee
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp allspice
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ⅛ tsp ginger
Gingerbread Coffee
- 1 C ground coffee
- 1tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp allspice
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ⅛ tsp ginger

One serving is one Tablespoon if you're using a reusable K-Cup. Or each recipe will make one pot of coffee (10-12 cups, depending on how strong you like it.)
For Ambiance
If you’re really missing your local coffee shop, you can go to the Coffitivity website and they have free audio tracks that recreate the ambient sounds of a cafe to boost your creativity and help you work better. Happy sipping!
